1. Introductions
This consisted of a brilliant thrown-together-in-record-time montage of Maddrim 2011 film clips (courtesy of Joe - *applause*) with appropriate music sections: happy, sad
and (to finish) victorious. A good start.
2. Talking protocol so people don’t
talk over each other (introduced at the beginning and monitored by Harry…
probably)
1. Harry wasn’t here to act as the “talking
protocol” - SadFace :( - which he made a fabulous job of last year. Luckily things weren’t
quite as intense as last time! Though, I was on guard to take his place.
3. Last EGM - 2009
Bravo
on the upkeep of the AGM (hint – ANNUAL).
4. Achievements of 2011-2012
(a) Screenplay 2011 films (b) Awards (c) Workshops (d) Films (e) Website (f) Accounts
1. This was the section where we basically praised
ourselves with Maddrim glory. Note: MJ has a Maddrim “trophy” (in reality, I
believe this is the Shetland Youth Achievement Awards Nomination Certificate...?). Actually, I think she's given it back now, since the writing of my notes :P
Among 2011 films (Autumn Leaves, Picture
Perfect, Maddrim: Behind The Headlines, Tall Ships Commission.....etc) there is
MJ’s improve film – which is finished! And, if it doesn't already have one, it REALLY needs a new
title; this is not the first *hint* MJ!
We discussed our workshop scheme/plan and decided it was working well, and to continue with it.
Our filming technology/techniques are on
the up...though our quantity wasn’t massive this year.
Oh, and a dent in our glory was the loss of www.maddrim.com. :’( Damned Ballers Throwin’
Down! But we’ll skip over this – the “Yo Bro Ho” crowd have won...this time.
See www.maddrimmedia.co.uk www.maddrimmedia.org or www.maddrimmedia.info for our website
:)
Time to repay our long-standing debts – in an
Awards-style Ceremony of Reimbursement. Now, the accounts are square :D
5. Future projects
(a) A Hansel of Film (b) Grain Media (c) Ninja films (d) Equipment Workshops
Kathy talked to us about the Hansel of Film
project that’s happening this year – a creative Olympiad of >5minute films
for general audience viewing (the drugs-referencing Masks is at the limit
guys!) Dear Kathy is also trying to persuade Panasonic to give cameras as
prizes for the best films :D *Oooooooooh!*
And then there’s Screenplay. Kathy wants to
invite Søren Sveistrup – writer of The Killing, a cracking Danish crime drama – up to the
isles! And host a Sarah Lund-inspired gansie party (Yes yes yes!) She also
mentioned having an interactive “Computer Gaming” side to the festival, as well
as the “Scando” theme that’s going on.
Willem suggested filming 20 sec shorts with
older members advising younger members – ideas such as “TURN OFF YOUR PHONES!”
came to mind.
Grain!
Now this really is exciting.
On 21st and 22nd
January, Grain Media (a PROFESSIONAL filming company) are running all day
workshops for us, as part of the Poverty, Deprivation and Social Exclusion
documentary we’ll help them with. We’ll also get Skype workshops, and another
weekend later on in March. Transport can be arranged for those who need it, and
Martin has offered to speak to employers if getting of work is an issue :)
We have been accused of being too weak to
use some of the equipment...pffa! An excuse for the equipment not working
properly. There will be a check for all the Shetland Arts equipment, then
(guess what) another workshop!
Ninja
Well, this point brings my notes out of date - we’ve
filmed the “Wrong school!” section already! See next set of minutes...
Then I read the “Ideology” section out from a previous meeting, in which this section raised heated discussion with points to be tackled at Christmas (by Maddrim organisation, now). The following arose:
What do we do with our films after they’ve
been made – are they Maddrim’s or the director’s? Who owns them?
Take Stallion Head 3. Chris and Lorcan made
it their own and excluded the group from even reading the script, yet the
Stallion Head films are quite an ingrained part of Maddrim and they came to
meetings to prepare for the film.
Take Love Letters in the Sand. It was entered into prize-winning competitions. In the case of winning, who has rights to the prize?

The consensus was that clarity is needed.
The distinction between Maddrim films and films merely supported by Maddrim
needs to be made from the outset.
Then we acknowledged Cara for bringing
Maddrim direction in hard times :D Yay Cara!
A reminder of our Ideology: Maddrim means “fun
and games” in dialect, bairns, mind dat :)
7. Amendments to the constitution + Membership
We read through the constitution (which I will post next) and made sure
everyone was happy with what it said. Small changes were made – quorums were
decided (who needs to be present for a decision for the whole group to be made
etc.) and we decided on the membership.
Packs are being given out with a simple form to fill in in order for people to become official members. Also, we need to charge - sorry; but we've made it £5 per year, so hopefully it won't break the bank. Non-members will have to pay per week (either 50p or £1, I've forgotten) starting 16th (next Monday)
8. Electing a new Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretariat and Trustee (specific duties, see next post)
Chair: Joe is running, nominated by Willem
and seconded by Lorcan...and there was no opposition. Joe is official Chair!
Vice-Chair: MJ is running, nominated once
again by Willem and seconded by Joe...again, with no opposition. Congrats MJ!
Secretariat: Katya is running, nominated by
Joe and seconded by Peter...again, I was the only one standing, so I’m
secretary :)
Trustee (must be >18): Willem is
running, nominated by Mhairi and seconded by Chris...and, surprise surprise, no
one else stood – Willem is trustee!
For an election, there was a serious lack of
voting :P
WELL DONE EVERYBODY :D
9. Future projects (a) Young Film Club (b) Editing group (c) Other ideas
Our Film Critics idea has not been met with total
enthusiasm, simply because Kathy is not keen on the copyright (yada yada..)
rules and regulations about public screenings. Even for educational purposes,
it’s expensive. Sad.
Concerning editing, Lorcan made it clear that style must be included in
teaching as well as the basic tools needed. Snappy – this is an important word to remember.
Hopefully Grain can help with this, as well as the experienced Maddrimers
passing on their invaluable skills.
Get your thinkin’ caps on! It’s going to be a busy
year. Bring it.
10. New AGM date – August?
Yup, the next
AGM will be in August....and yes, that IS twice in one year, but August is a
convenient date.
11. Inspection
As part of the inspection next week, Roseanne and Joe will be attending a focus group and speaking about their experiences at Maddrim. Nice things, I hope.
12. AOCB
This was a group photo :)
And that, I believe, is everything!
Katya
