Minutes from Meeting 02/06/2011
Present: Joe, Lorcan, Katya, Chloe, Chloe, Freya, Roseanne, Eamonn, Kate, Max,
Martin, Kathy, Chris
The meeting kicked off to a roaring start with Kathy
kindling excitement for the upcoming Screenplay festival. This year the entries
are extremely competitive, so she has warned us all to not do things in the
usual last-minute style and make sure technical things are up to scratch. If a
film is not of a good standard then it will not be accepted for screening, end
of. Time to up our game in the sound department, then!
After this fair warning, Kathy told us about a super
exciting project for 2012. Screenplay has been invited to take part in the
Cultural Olympiad 2012. Kathy has come up with the idea of a film-festival
relay of locally made films from around the coasts of the British Isles,
starting in Shetland on the day the Olympic torch arrives on the islands and
then moving onwards to other destinations, with the overall aim being to wrap
the entirety of the UK in one, big metaphorical spool of locally-made films.
The means of transporting the films will be another fun aspect to this! Maddrim
will be required to make EXCELLENT films to participate in such an epic event,
so get your thinking caps on for 2012 everyone!
At this point in the meeting Chris came online, so we were
able to Skype him into the meeting. Oh, technology! We placed the macbook on a
shelf at the top of the room, so he was able to Lord over us all like the
“ex-chairperson” he is.
We moved on to discuss finances, where it was discovered
that we have £600 in the bank, but we really need to check bank statements to
see where all the money actually came from... setting up of a petty cash
account would also be very handy for prop-buying. General Gist: we need to meet
with Lorraine.
Then we discussed the email from the Shetland Moving Image
Archive project. It was agreed that we could not take on all the secondary
schools and youth clubs that was asked of us, as the time this would take up
would be considerable, especially as many of us have extra-curricular
activities outside of Maddrim such as drama, wind band, etc whilst others work
full or part time. However, there was interest in the project and its benefits
were certainly acknowledged, but more details on the expected time-frame, fees
and negotiating the amount of talks is needed before a conclusion can be reached
on this. A meeting with Joanne Jamieson will
hopefully be organised soon on this matter.
Next up on the agenda was Screenplay idea pitches. Joe
managed to procure a flipchart, which he was worryingly excited about, on which
the pitches were categorised into “Comedy” “Drama” “Films that Transcend Comedy
and Drama” and “Aidan’s Sweet
Corner”:
·
Comedy
o
Autumn Leaves – dir. Joe (Joe’s pitch for this
was wonderful and filled with pregnancy scandal, although Chris hung up – we
believe in disgust – at the end of it.)
o
Cake Film – dir. Aidan and Chris
o
The Last Viking – dir. Katya and Chloe
o
Mockumentary – dir. Everyone
o
Death Goes on Strike – dir. Roseanne
§
Needs to be actually formed into a coherent film
idea rather than a vague concept, which may not happen in time for Screenplay
2011.
·
Drama
o
The Waiting Rooms – dir. Roseanne
o
Sad Stop Motion – dir. Chris
o
Running Film – dir. Lorcan
o
Soul Mates – dir. Lorcan
§
Last two may not happen as Lorcan wants to
concentrate on SH3
·
Films
that transcend Drama and Comedy
o
Stallionhead 3 – dir. Lorcan and Chris
§
Because Stallionhead 3 approaches certain issues
surrounding society and homosexuality. Yes, we’re going there.
·
Aidan’s
Sweet Corner
o
Cup Film – dir. Ceidiog
o
Old House Documentary – dir. Roseanne
As you can see from this, there is a worrying lack of
confirmable drama films. In fact, none of the listed films in the category can
guarantee getting made! Ahhhh! D:
There was discussion of the mockumentary. Ideas include:
· Interviews with people talking about Chris’
genius when it comes to his ironic presentation of society within his films,
then showing clips of Chris who is actually a moron. Throughout the
mockumentary he will appear at random intervals and say things like “How about
a film about a man who can read people’s minds, except his head is the shape of
a telephone? And he’s trying to find his purpose in life.” (quote courtesy of
Joe and Lorcan).
·
Aidan as some kind of Idol who we all worship.
·
Reference to the dark era of Lorcan’s reign as
chairperson.
·
“real life interviews” of people responding to
the question “who are maddrim media?” with responses such as “a cult” etc
·
Behind the scenes footage of the films for
Screenplay 2011
Then we had cake. It wasn’t a lie!
There are some newly skilled Maddrimers who can offer us
their expertise in post production: Willem is now familiar with CGI, Eamonn
is very interested in music composition (he is, as these minutes are being
typed, composing music for the Cup Film), and Freya has done a lot of choreography in the past so can help out in that department!
We also have a lovely and talented photographer, Emma Coote,
who is going to be taking some shots of us at work over the summer!
Finally we need more followers on our facebook page, so if
you have facebook copy and paste this link (https://www.facebook.com/Maddrim)
onto your profile and spread the word! We’re hopefully going to keep this page
very active over the next few months!
I hope I haven’t missed anything terribly important out...
I’ve been writing these minutes for so long.
NEXT MEETING: Hopefully next Wednesday the 8th
of June, will confirm this as soon as a room is booked. Weekly meetings should
commence throughout the month of June but this will also need to be confirmed.
I’d say that’s a wrap, but we all know from the length of
these minutes things have only just begun...
Roseanne x
